Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer drop a home game to #8 Carnegie Mellon

MARIETTA, Oh. – The Marietta College women's soccer team was defeated by 8th ranked Carnegie Mellon University, 8-0 on Sunday (Sept. 18) afternoon.  With the win the Tartans improve to 4-1-1 on the season, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 0-4-1 overall.

Marietta tried to keep the action at a slower pace in the first half but the Tartans began to invade the Marietta half of the field.  In the 11th minute, Carnegie Mellon sent a corner kick into the box and Alex Adams eventually booted the ball into the goal to give them the first score of the game.  Two minutes later, Helena Locatelli sent another shot in the goal, off of yet another corner kick.  The Tartans tacked on two late-in-the-period goals and would go into the intermission with a 4-0 lead.

The Pioneers were out shot in the first half, 20-2, seven of the Tartan shots were on goal.  Carnegie Mellon also won the corner kick battle, 7-1 in the opening half.

The Tartans got on the board in the 48th minute of the match when Helena Spencer found the back of the net, off of a Gemma Jefferson assist.  Adams scored her second goal just a few minutes later and the Tartans would add a couple more late goals, cruising to a 8-0 victory.

Madison Miller (Marietta, Ohio/Warren) played 45 minutes in goal for Marietta, she faced 6 shots on goal, and made 2 saves in the match.  Brooke Smith (Cortland, Ohio/Maplewood) came in to work the second half.  She faced 13 shots on goal and made 9 saves.

The Pioneers will return to the field Friday (Sept. 23) when they travel to take on Hiram College.
