WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Marietta College women's soccer team went on the road and dropped a matchup, 2-1, with Washington and Jefferson on Wednesday (Sept. 14) evening.  With the loss the Pioneers are now 0-3-1 overall and the Presidents are 1-0-3 on the season.  

The Presidents wasted no time opening the scoring.  In the 5th minute of the match, Olivia Olsen fired a shot past Marietta's Madison Miller (Marietta, Ohio/Warren) and found the back of the net.  By the time Washington and Jefferson scored again in the 28^th minute, Marietta had not attempted a shot of their own yet.  Salah Calacan's first goal of the season gave the Presidents a 2-0 lead, which they would keep until intermission.

The Pioneers became much more active offensively as the second half began, but could not get a shot past replacement goalkeeper Abby Hipkins.  Finally, in the 78^th minute, Marietta's Taylor Sloan (Belpre, Ohio/Warren) rocketed a shot from the just inside the penalty box to the upper left hand corner of the goal, cutting the lead in half. Unfortunately, the comeback would run out of time and the Pioneers would lose, 2-1  

Madison Miller (Marietta, Ohio/Warren) played all 90 minutes in net for the Pioneers. She faced 12 shots, 7 of which were on goal, and made 5 saves in the game.  

Marietta will return to the field Sunday (Sept. 18) when they welcome in Carnegie Mellon, with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
