Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse falls to Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team took to the road on Wednesday (April 6) evening and was defeated by Capital University, 13-7.  With the win the Comets improve to 5-6 overall, 2-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 2-9 on the season, 0-4 in the OAC.

Capital jumped out to a big first half lead with the help of Even Frund, Brandon Pelton, and Mason Spaulding.  Pelton scored a little over three minutes into the game, but Connor Ficke (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) finally was able to answer five minutes later to tie it up.  The Comets would go on to score the next eight goals, closing out the first quarter with a pair of Frund goals.  It was not until with one minute left in the half that the Pioneers found the net.  Following a Comet penalty, Eren Evensen (Medina, Ohio/Medina) took full advantage of the man-advantage and scored off of Zach Radcliffe (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) assist.  The Pioneers were down 10-2 at the half.

Radcliffe opened the scoring in the third quarter with a goal, but Capital would score the next three goals to put the lead at ten going into the final period.  Marietta finished strong as they did their best to cut into the deficit.  Chase Franklin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) would score twice and Ficke and Radcliffe would tack on late goals.  The comeback was not enough and Capital would go on to win, 13-7.

Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pioneers, he faced 41 shots, 24 of which were on goal, and made 11 saves.

Defensively for the Pioneers, Nate Neal (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) led the way with two caused turnovers.  Zach Rush (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) picked up four groundballs and caused a turnover.  Nathan Grover (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) won 14 faceoffs and picked up eight groundballs.

Marietta will return to the field Saturday (April 9) when they travel to take on Ohio Northern University, with the game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
