MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team lost to visiting Muskingum University by the score of 7-2 Thursday (April 21) afternoon. The Pioneers slip to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Muskingum improves to 6-9 on the season and 2-4 in the OAC.
All three doubles matches were closely contested with the Muskies winning two of the three matches. Marietta won the No. 3 doubles match with Abigail Hartshorn and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) beating Kaylee Anstaett and Evelyn Pauquette, 8-5.
Gracie Andrews and Sarah Ann Hafner downed
Ashton Binegar (/) and
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) at No. 1, 8-4, while Scarlett Martell and Amanda Plaskett defeated
Payton Brinks (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) and
Madilyn McKitrick (/), 8-5, at No. 2.
Mauk claimed Marietta's other team point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Anstaett at No. 6 singles.
Hafner topped Thompson at No. 1 singles, 6-1 and 6-1. Binegar fell to Andrews at No. 2 by the scores of 6-3, 6-7 (4-7) and 1-0 (10-6). At No. 3, Martell beat Brinks, 6-1 and 6-1.
In the No. 4 singles match, Hartshorn lost to Pauquette, 7-6 (7-2) and 6-2. At No. 5, Plaskett downed McKitrick, 7-5 and 6-0.
Marietta travels to Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday (April 23) for a 1:00 p.m. match.
