BEREA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Baldwin Wallace University by the score of 7-2 Saturday (April 23) afternoon. Marietta falls to 2-12 overall and 0-6 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace improves to 4-10 overall and 3-2 in the OAC.
The Pioneers started the afternoon in a hole having to forfeit the No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles matches giving BW a 3-0 head start.
The Yellow Jackets secured the team victory by winning the other two doubles matches. Gabriela Heideman and Kierstyn Yates beat
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) and
Madilyn McKitrick (/) at No. 1, 8-1. In the No. 2 match, Abigail Hartshorn and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) lost to Lizzy Cole and Hanna LeMaster, 8-1.
Marietta picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 4 singles. Thompson defeated Emma Trost at No. 1, 6-0 and 6-4. Mauk downed Juliet Penrod at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-4.
At No. 2 singles, Hicks beat Hartshorn, 6-3 and 6-2, while Kami DiRocco topped McKitrick at No. 3, 6-3 and 6-0.
Marietta closes out the regular season at home on Wednesday (April 27) against Capital at 4:00 p.m.
