Men’s Lacrosse defeated by Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team was defeated 10-3 on the road at Otterbein University, on Wednesday (April 20) evening.  With the win the Cardinals improve to  6-7 overall and 4-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and with the loss the Pioneers now 3-11 and 1-6 in OAC action.

After a scoreless first nine minutes, Otterbein scored a man-advantage goal from Dekaider Jackson.  Nick Clay's goal at the 3:29 mark gave the Cardinals a two-goal lead.  On the ensuing play, Nathan Grover (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) won the face off, picked up the groundball, and fed Connor Ficke (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) with a great pass.  Ficke would than find the back of the net and cut the lead in half.  The Pioneers would take the one-goal deficit into the second period.
 
The first eight minutes of period two were controlled by Otterbein, scoring three goals in the process.  Clay would score again followed by goals from Aiden Moore and Nawny Bailey to widen the lead to four.  Eren Evensen (Medina, Ohio/Medina) scored late in the half to make the score 5-2 going into intermission.
 
The Cardinals would score four goals in the first nine minutes of the third quarter to give them their biggest lead of the match.  Zach Radcliffe (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) would score in the final two minutes to put the score at 9-3 after three periods.  The Pioneers, though, would be held scoreless in the final stanza and Otterbein would cruise to victory.  

Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) would go the distance in the net for the Pioneers. He faced 36 shots, 17 of which were on goal, and made seven saves.

Defensively, Jacob Morlando (White Bear Lake, Minn./Stillwater) led the way with three caused turnovers.  Grover had another solid game in the faceoff position, winning 12 of 17 and picking up six groundballs.
 
The Pioneers will return to the field Saturday (April 23) when they travel to Heidelberg, with the game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
