MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team fell 20-4 to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday (April 2) afternoon at Don Drumm Stadium. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-8, 0-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets improved to 7-3, 3-0 in the OAC.
Baldwin Wallace scored two goals in first five minutes. Kyler Byerly, the Jackets leading scorer, found the net both times giving Baldwin Wallace the early lead. A minute after the Yellow Jackets extended the lead,
Eren Evensen (Medina, Ohio/Medina) scored to finally get the Pioneers on the board. Baldwin Wallace tacked on one last score to close out the period with 4-1 lead.
The Yellow Jackets exploded for four more goals in the second period to extended the lead to 9-1.
Connor Ficke (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) scored off of an assist to briefly stop the momentum but Baldwin Wallace took a 10-2 lead into intermission.
Baldwin Wallace widened the lead with five unanswered goals to begin the third period.
Zach Radcliffe (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) was able to score at the 2:04 mark but Marietta took an 11-goal deficit into the final period.
Chase Franklin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) tacked on one more Pioneer score but the damage had been done and Baldwin Wallace won, 20-4
Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) played all 60 minutes in goal, he faced 57 shots, 42 of which were on goal, and made 22 saves.
Defensively,
Zach Rush (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) led the way with a game high two caused turnovers and three groundballs in the game.
Blake Chisholm (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) added a caused turnover, and three groundballs.
Nathan Grover (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) won a game high 20 face-offs and also led the team in groundballs with 15.
The Pioneers will return to action Wednesday (April 6) when they travel to take on Capital University, with the game scheduled to begin at. 7 p.m.
