MARIETTA, Ohio — Ohio Northern University swept Marietta College, 9-0, Saturday (April 16) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis. The Pioneers fall to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in the OAC. Ohio Northern improves to 14-5 overall and 3-1 in the OAC.
The Polar Bears jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after doubles. In the No. 1 spot, Katie Curry and Miranda Welles blanked
Ashton Binegar (/) and
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie), 8-0.
Payton Brinks (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) and
Madilyn McKitrick (/) fell to Katie O'Connell and Flo Sanchez, 8-1. Abigail Hartshorn and Mauk lost at No. 3 to Victoria Santana and Cassie Stuber, 8-4.
Curry downed Thompson in the No. 1 singles match, 6-2 and 6-0. At No. 2, Santana beat Binegar, 6-2 and 6-1, while Brinks lost to Wells at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-0.
O'Connell topped Hartshorn at No. 4, 6-1 and 6-0. McKitrick fell to Sanchez at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-1, while Stuber beat Mauk at No. 6, 6-0 and 7-5.
Marietta hosts Muskingum on Thursday (April 21) at 4:00 p.m.
