ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team lost to the University of Mount Union by the score of 5-4 Sunday (April 10) afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Mount Union improves to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the OAC.
Mount Union won the top two doubles matches and led 2-1 heading into single. Marietta's Abigail Hartshorn and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) defeated Gretchen Koken and Jenna Reppart at No. 3, 8-3. In the No. 1 doubles match, Abby Franks and Emma Thornton downed
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) and
Ashton Binegar (/), 8-2.
Payton Brinks (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) and
Madilyn McKitrick (/) fell to Sydney Scotford and Jenna Hinkle at No. 2, 8-6.
The teams split the singles matches with Marietta winning at Nos. 3, 5 and 6. Brinks beat Scotford at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-2. At No. 5, McKitrick topped Marrisa Scobee, 6-2 and 6-4. Mauk earned her second team point of the day with a 0-6, 6-4 and 10-7 win at No. 6 against Koken.
In the No. 1 match, Franks defeated Thompson, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-3. Thornton bested Binegar at No. 2, 6-1 and 6-3. Mount's final point came at No. 4, where Hinkle beat Hartshorn, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4.
Marietta hosts Muskingum University on Monday (April 11) at 4:00 p.m.
