ALLIANCE, Ohio — Marietta College lost to the University of Mount Union, 8-1, Sunday (April 10) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis action. The loss drops Marietta to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the OAC. The Purple Raiders improve to 1-7 on the season and 1-2 in the OAC.
Marietta was forced to forfeit the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches staking Mount Union to a 2-0 lead.
The Purple Raiders swept the other two doubles matches for an early 4-0 advantage. Colton Mace and Ryan McClure downed
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and
Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/La Salle) at No. 1 by the score of 8-3.
Elliot Britton (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire/John Hampden Grammar) and
Tyler Wise (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) fell at No. 2 doubles to Holden Schmid and Lawyer Penird, 9-8.
Mount Union picked up straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 3 singles. Mace downed Perez in the top spot, 6-4 and 6-1. At No. 3, Schmid beat Wise, 6-3 and 6-1.
Gavin Donnell (/) won Marietta's lone point with a three-set victory at No. 5. Donnell lost the first set, 5-7 and then battled back to win the next two sets, 6-2 and 6-4.
In the other two matches McClure defeated Hall at No. 2, 3-6, 7-6 and 10-8. In the No. 4 match, Penird topped Britton, 6-3, 1-6 and 10-8.
Marietta hosts Otterbein on Wednesday (April 13) at 4:00 p.m.
