HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Marietta College men's tennis team put together a very nice performance on Wednesday (March 9) as their spring trip continued, defeating Cairn University 5-4. With the win, Marietta improves to 2-5 and with the loss Cairn falls to 3-5.
The Pioneers posted 8-6 victories in the first two doubles matches. Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/La Salle) defeated Cairn's Jake Edwards and Timothy Robinson to get things moving in a positive way. Marietta's Elliot Britton (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire/John Hampden Grammar) and Tyler Wise (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) posted the win in the Doubles No. 2 match over Brad Garges and Joel Kim. The Highlanders were able to secure the final doubles match as Joel Cassel and Ismael Santana got past Marietta's David Frazier (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and Gavin Donnell (/), 8-1.
Perez and Hall pulled off straight set victories over their opponents in the first two singles matches. Wise won the first set in his singles match but lost the second set and the tiebreaker to fall short in Singles match No. 3.
Marietta's Britton defeated Kim in straight sets in Singles No. 4. Frazier put up a tough fight in Singles No. 5 but lost both sets. Donnel went to a third set tiebreaker but would eventually fall to Cassel.
The Hilton Head trip continues this Thursday (March 10) as the Pioneers take on Messiah University at 8:30 a.m.
