HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Marietta College men's tennis team did not get to participate in a Spring Break trip last year due to COVID-19. This year, they traveled to beautiful Hilton Head to enjoy some great weather and get in some matches. On Sunday (March 6), the men opened the spring trip with a 9-0 loss to Gettysburg College. The Pioneers fall to 1-5 on the season and the Bullets remained undefeated at 5-0.
Gettysburg handled the Pioneers in each of the three doubles matches. In the first match, Alex Kagan and Max Levy notched an 8-6 victory over
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and
Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/La Salle). Marietta's
Elliot Britton (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire/John Hampden Grammar) and
Tyler Wise (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) fell at the No. 2 doubles match to Chase Burker and Dylan Weber, 8-4. Gettysburg's Bruce Weigartz and Alec Shalk were 8-1 winners at No. 3 over Marietta's
David Frazier (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and
Gavin Donnell (/).
Perez fell to Michael Zayneh at No. 1 singles by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Zach Lachance beat Hall, 6-4 and 6-4 at No. 2. At No. 3, Matt Rau defeated Britton, 6-1 and 6-3.
Wise lost to Hayden Strittmatter at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-0. Frazier was bested by Levy, 6-0 and 6-2 at No. 5. Jeffrey Seybolt defeated Donnell in the final singles match of the day 6-0 and 6-0.
The Hilton Head trip continues this Wednesday (March 9) as Marietta battles Cairn University (from Langhorne, PA) at 4:00 p.m.
