Women’s Lacrosse loses at home to Mount Union

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's lacrosse team lost a home match 16-5, to the University of Mount Union on Thursday (March 31) evening.  With the win the Purple Raiders improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and the with the loss the Pioneers are now 6-3 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.  

"Not our best game tonight on the box score but our defense played incredible," said Head Coach Malory Nadrah. "We made some great defensive plays and holds against a phenomenal offense."
 
Mount Union kept Marietta off of the scoreboard for the entire first quarter, scoring five times in the process.  UMU's Julia Bates scored twice in the first couple of minutes and Sam Karr, Eden Kesler, and Sydney Bumbarger chipped in goals to give the Purple Raiders a five-goal lead going into the second period.
 
Katie Clark put another goal in for Mount Union in the first minute of the second period, but the Pioneers finally got on the scoreboard with a score from Rachel Sivie (Washington, Pa./Trinity).  Mackenzie Dyott (Easton, Md./Easton) scored again with less than three minutes left but Mount Union kept the offensive explosion going with five more scores to take a 11-2 lead into halftime.
 
Bates deposited her fourth goal of the match for the Purple Raiders ust one minute into the third period, but Hope Adams (Delaware, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) found the back of the net on a free position shot just one minute later.  UMU's Bumbarger collected her third and fourth goals of the game to start the fourth period to clinch the game.  Anna Callow (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) and Dyott scored for the Pioneers to close out the game but Marietta would fall to Mount Union, 16-5

Abby May (Randolph, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) got the start and alternated periods with Maddie Leers (Crystal Lake, Ill./Barrington).  May faced 19 shots, 12 of which were on goal, and made five saves.  Leers faced 14 shots, 12 of which were on goal, and made three saves
 
Dyott led in goals with two and picked up four groundballs.  Casey Roeder (Milford, Ohio/Milford) also picked up four groundballs.  Kyla Andreas (Shirley, N.Y./Longwood) cause two turnovers and picked up three groundballs.  Leeza Jongekryg (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) and Carlle Kernodle led the team with two draw controls apiece.

The Pioneers will return to the field Saturday (April 2) when they travel to Baldwin Wallace, with the game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
