WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Marietta College senior
Jason Ellis (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week Monday (Feb. 7) afternoon by the league office. This is the second time this season that Ellis has won the weekly award.
Ellis helped the No. 3 ranked Pioneers to a pair of OAC wins last week. He recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in Marietta's 84-64 victory against rival Muskingum University. He was 4-for-8 from three-point range and dished out five assists against the Muskies.
Ellis closed out the week with his best scoring output of the season pouring in 32 points in the Pioneers' 88-74 win against John Carroll University. One of the top shooters in the conference, Ellis drained seven of his 13 three-point attempts in the game.
For the week, Ellis averaged 25.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He shot a sizzling 52.4% (11-of-21) from long range, while converting 45.5% (15-of-33) of his total field goal attempts. The leading free throw shooter in the conference, Ellis was 9-of-10 (90.0%) at the charity stripe.
Ellis currently leads Marietta in scoring averaging 17.1 points per game. He has moved into 13th on MC's all-time scoring list with 1,362 career points. In addition to leading the OAC in free throw shooting, he is ranked fifth in scoring, second in steals and third in assists.
The Pioneers travel to Alliance on Wednesday (Feb. 9) for a huge OAC matchup against No. 11 ranked Mount Union. The Pioneers are currently leading the OAC with a 13-0 league record. Mount Union and Heidelberg are tied for second with 11-2 conference records.
