DELAWARE, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a 9-0 loss at Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday (Feb. 5) afternoon. The Pioneers are 2-4 on the season, while Ohio Wesleyan moves to 1-2 overall.
The Battling Bishops posted a trio of 8-0 wins in doubles to take a 3-0 lead. Ale Coronel-Zegarra and Ruthie Silberman defeated
Ashton Binegar (/) and
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) at No. 1.
Payton Brinks (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) fell to Shanzay Ali and Katie Lee at No. 2, while Kaitlyn Quinn and Emma Zajac downed AbbyHartshorn and
Madilyn McKitrick (/) at No. 3.
In the No. 1 singles match, Coronel-Zegarra topped Thompson, 6-1 and 6-0. Lee took down Binegar at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-0, while Silberman was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 3 against Brinks.
In the No. 4 match, Mauk loss to Ali, 6-1 and 6-0. Quinn beat Hartshorn 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
Marietta defaulted at No. 6 singles.
The Pioneers are off until spring break when Marietta travels to Hilton Head, S.C. for several matches in the Spring Tennisfest March 5-12.
