COLUMBUS, Ohio — Capital University scored once in each half to defeat Marietta College 2-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer action Wednesday (Oct. 19) evening. The loss drops Marietta to 4-8-3 overall and 2-4 in the OAC. Capital improves to 3-8-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the OAC.
Marietta scored an early goal only to watch Capital level the match 20 seconds later.
Jacob Roberto (Berea, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) played the ball wide to
Gavin Chappel (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) who dropped a cross into the center the 18-yard box where
Ben Teasdale (Yorkshire, United Kingdom/Lady Lumleys) was waiting to head the ball home for a 1-0 Pioneer lead in the seventh minute.
A few seconds later Capital got the equalizer from Jack Kossoudji. Jacob Deever took possession of the ball near midfield and threaded a long through ball to Kossoudji. Marietta keeper
Joey Backhaus (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) came off his line too late and Kossoudji slipped the ball by him and into the net.
Capital scored the game winner just two minutes into the second half. Jack Francisco fired a long shot that was saved by keeper
Luke Price (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) but not controlled. Kossoudji was there for the point blank follow up shot for the game winning goal.
Connor Sexton went the distance in goal for the Comets recording seven saves. Backhaus had two saves in the first 45 minutes, while Price collected seven saves in the final 45 minutes.
Marietta hosts Heidelberg University for Senior Day on Saturday (Oct. 22) at 6 p.m.
