MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College defeated Earlham College by the score of 4-3 Sunday (Oct. 16) afternoon in men's tennis action. The Pioneers improve to 2-1 overall, while Earlham falls to 0-1 on the season.
With both teams short of a full lineup, the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches were not played. Each team won one of the two remaining doubles matches and were tied 1-1 heading into singles.
Earlham's Hyunseong and Sarthak Sharma defeated
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and
Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria Abierta) at No. 1 doubles, 9-7. The Pioneers earned the split when
Evan Barker (Washington, W.Va./Parkersburg South) and
Elijah Kuhl (Marietta, Ohio/Wood County Christian (W.Va.)) took down Noah Kishimoto and Leonardo Leao at No. 2 by the score of 8-4.
The Pioneers secured the team victory with wins in the bottom three singles matches. Perez beat Kishimoto at No. 3, 1-6, 6-4 and 6-2. Hall downed Leao at No. 4, 6-3 and 6-0, while
George Fazah (Beirut, Lebanon/Adma International School) was a 7-5, 0-6, 7-6 winner over Robert lemon at No. 5.
In the No. 1 singles match, Sharma topped Kuhl, 6-0 and 7-5. Earlham's final point came from Ahm at No. 2 where he defeated Barker, 6-4 and 6-2.
The Pioneers have concluded the fall portion of their schedule and will return to the courts in March.
