WILMINGTON, Ohio — Wilmington College scored a pair of unassisted goals as the Quakers defeated Marietta College, 2-0, Saturday (Oct. 15) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The loss dropped the Pioneers to 4-7-3 overall and 2-3 in the OAC. Wilmington improves to 8-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the OAC.
Elorm Dogbey gave the Quakers an early lead with a goal in the 18th minute. Wilmington took the one goal lead into halftime. The Quakers held a 12-4 advantage in shots during the first 45 minutes.
The Quakers doubled their lead in the 64th minute when Gio Alvarez found the back of the net.
Wilmington controlled the ball most of the match taking 22 shots to just nine for the Pioneers. The Quakers had an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 4-2 lead in corners.
Thomas Grimes recorded the shutout in goal for the Quakers making three saves in the match.
Joey Backhaus (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) had six saves in net for the Pioneers.
Marietta travels to Capital University on Wednesday (Oct. 19) for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
