MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team recorded its first win of the season with a 6-1 decision over visiting Ohio Christian University Saturday (Sept. 25) at the Beren Tennis Center. The Pioneers improve to 1-2 on the season, while Ohio Christian falls to 0-3 overall.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by sweeping the doubles.
Eric DeLong (Lowell, Ohio/Marietta) and
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) beat Christopher Huff and Zach Savino at No. 1 by the score of 8-6. In the No. 2 match, Gavin Donnell and David Frazier defeated Ian Frank and David Mack, 8-7 (10-8).
Marietta secured the team victory with quick wins at Nos. 5 and 3 singles. At No. 5, Donnell beat Ryan Batig, 6-0 and 6-1.
Tyler Wise (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) returned to the lineup for the first time this season and topped Frank at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-3.
Ohio Christian picked up its lone point when Huff edged DeLong at No. 1, 6-4 and 6-4.
At No. 2, Hall downed Savino, 6-4 and 7-5. Frazier was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Mack at No. 4.
Marietta hosts Westminster College on Saturday (Oct. 25) at 2 p.m.
