MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team lost to Westminster College by the score of 8-1 Sunday (Oct. 17) afternoon. The Pioneers finish the fall portion of their schedule with a 1-3 record. The Titans improve to 2-1 overall.
Without a sixth player available to play, Marietta was forced to forfeit the No. 3 double and No. 6 singles points to Westminster.
The Titans won the two doubles matches that were played for an early 4-0 lead. Ethan Bowden and Jimmy Oberlin edged
Eric DeLong (Lowell, Ohio/Marietta) and
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) at No. 1 by the score of 8-6. At No. 2, David Frazier and
Tyler Wise (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) fell 8-0 to Sam Scotford and Noah Sofran.
Marietta's lone point came at No. 2 singles where Hall downed Dowden in straight sets, 7-6 (7-3) and 6-1.
In the top spot, Oberlin posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over DeLong. Wise fell to Scotford at No. 3, 6-3 and 6-0. At No. 4, Logan Mannheimer blanked Frazier, 6-0 and 6-0. George Oliver topped Gavin Donnell at No. 5, 6-1 and 6-0.
