Women's Rowing takes Varsity Eight silver at Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — The Marietta College women's rowing team claimed a silver medal in the Division III varsity heavyweight 8+ Grand Final at the 82nd annual Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta Saturday (May 8) on the Schuylkill River.

The Pioneers also advanced its varsity pair to the Grand Final. Marietta's pair placed sixth in the Grand Final after finishing third in its morning heat.

"We have made great progress this year," Marietta head coach Abby Lord said. "We executed our race plan and rowed a strong race to finish solidly in second."

Stockton took the varsity 8+ gold medal with a time of 7:07.660. The Pioneers crossed the finish line seven seconds later (7:15.492), followed by Franklin and Marshall (7:34.312) and Washington College (7:38.150).

In the morning heats, Marietta's varsity pair qualified for the Grand Final with a third-place finish in its heat. Princeton "B" posted a time of 8:01.562 with Georgetown (8:30.248) and Marietta (9:20.802) claiming the other two spots in the Grand Final.

Adrian was fourth with a time of 10:09.802 and Cabrini finished in 12:45.414.

In the Grand Final, Princeton "B" took the gold medal finishing 14 seconds ahead of the second-place crew. Princeton recorded a winning time of 7:45.589, followed by Oklahoma City (7:59.985), Princeton "A" (8:09.281), Gordon (8:09.417), Georgetown (8:19.419) and Marietta (9:11.741).
