Men’s Lacrosse dominates Heidelberg

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team earned its first shutout in program history in a 21-0 win over Heidelberg University on Saturday (April 24) afternoon.  With the win the Pioneers improve to 4-8 overall and 3-5 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, and with the loss the Student Princes fall to 0-10 overall and 0-8 in the OAC.  

Marietta opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, when Chase Mullen (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) scored off a feed from Zach Radcliffe (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park).  A minute and a half later the Pioneers made the score 2-0 when Chase Franklin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) found the back of the net.  Connor Ficke (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) increased the Marietta edge to 3-0 off an assist from Kyle Fleshmman. Five minutes later, Ficke scored an unassisted goal to make the score 4-0.  Two minutes later Ficke scored his third goal of the game, and Radcliffe scored the final goal of the quarter off a feed from Quinn Rundgren (Angier, N.C./Fuquay Varina).  The Pioneers entered the second quarter ahead, 6-0.  

Marietta continued to pull away in the second quarter, as they scored five unanswered goals to lead 11-0 at the intermission. The second quarter goals were scored by Mullen, Rundgren, Zach Klein (Evergreen, Co./Evergreen), Radcliffe, and Franklin.  Ficke notched assists on four of the five goals.  

The Pioneers put the game away with seven consecutive goals in the third quarter to lead 18-0, to enter the final frame.  The Marietta goals were scored by James Everson (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy), Radcliffe, Rundgren, Mullen, and Ficke.  Mullen and Rundgren each scored a pair of goals in the third quarter, and Klein had the lone assist.  

The fourth quarter saw three goals by the Pioneers.  The first goal of the quarter was scored by Jackson McGill (New Market, Md./Oakdale) off an assist by Benjamin Hrovat (Jamestown, R.I./Bshop Hendricken)James Everson (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) scored the second goal of the quarter, and Logan Podgorski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) scored the final goal of the game.  Marietta won the game 21-0.  The 21-goal differential is largest win in program history.   

Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) and Cam Everson (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) each played a half in goal, the duo faced 20 shots, five of which were on goal.  Barker made a pair of saves, while Cam Everson (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) tallied three saves in the game.  

Offensively the Pioneers were led by Ficke, he had four goals, and four assists in the game.  Defensively, Henry Clark (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange), Noah Coleman (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont Kettering), Nate Neal (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), and Zach Rush (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) all caused a turnover in the match.  

Marietta will return to the field Saturday (May 1) when they conclude the regular season against Baldwin Wallace, with the game scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
