MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College lost a 9-0 match to Baldwin Wallace University Saturday (April 24) morning in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis action. The Pioneers fall to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace improves to 3-2 on the season and 3-2 in conference matches.
The Yellow Jackets picked up a quick point at No. 1 doubles when Ashtyn Morris and Gabriella Heideman blanked
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) and
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)), 8-0. The No. 2 team of Jayde Robinson and Kierstyn Yates were 8-4 winners over Abigail Hartshorn and
Payton Brinks (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan), while Kerrigan Ponsart and Lizzy Cole downed
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Abby Ketchum (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) at No. 3, 8-3.
Morris took the top singles match from Thompson, 6-1 and 6-1. Robinson won the No. 3 match over Flores by the same score. At No. 2, Heideman topped Haas, 6-0 and 6-0.
In the No. 4 match, Cole shut out Ketchum, 6-0 and 6-0. Yates won the No. 5 match by the same score. Emma Hubbard completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 against Hartshorn.
Marietta will close out the regular season on Wednesday (April 28) when the Pioneers travel to Columbus for a 1 p.m. match at Capital University.
