MARIETTA, Ohio — Otterbein University defeated Marietta College by the score of 9-0 Thursday (April 22) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis action. The loss drops Marietta to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the OAC. Otterbein improves to 4-1 on the season and 4-1 in league play.
Otterbein got on the board first with a win at No. 3 doubles. Rachel Ferguson and Julia Gillin blanked Abigail Hartshorn and
Abby Ketchum (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta), 8-0.
Payton Brinks (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) and
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) fell to Madi Mueller and Jordyn Traxler at No. 2 by the score of 8-1. The Cardinals' team of Rachelle Moses and Erin Storrer took the No. 1 doubles match from
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)) by the score of 8-2.
The Cardinals posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in three of the singles matches. At No. 1, Storrer beat Grim. Mueller downed Haas at No. 2, while Ferguson topped Ketchum at No. 5.
In the No. 3 match, Traxler defeated Flores, 6-1 and 6-0. Mosses beat Hartshorn by the same scores at No. 4. At No. 6, Gillin was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Brinks.
The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday (April 24) when they host Baldwin Wallace for a 1 p.m. match.
