Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse defeated by Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team was defeated 19-4 on the road at Otterbein University, on Wednesday (April 21) evening.  With the win the Cardinals improve to 9-2 overall and 6-1in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and with the loss the Pioneers now 3-8 and 2-7 in OAC action.

Otterbein scored the first four goals in the opening nine minutes of the game.  The final six minutes of the quarter were scoreless and Marietta trailed 4-0 to enter the second quarter.  

The Cardinals scored six second quarter goals, and led 11-0 at the intermission.  

Otterbein opened the third quarter with five straight goals.  The Pioneers got on the board late in the quarter, when Connor Ficke (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) scored off of a feed from Chase Franklin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon).  

After the Cardinals scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter, Franklin found the back of the net for Marietta.  Two minutes later, an Otterbein goal made the score 18-2.  The Pioneers continued to battle and scored back to back goals.  The Marietta goals were scored by James Everson (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) and Zach Klein (Evergreen, Co./Evergreen).  The Cardinals scored the final goal of the game and won, 19-4.  

Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) played all 60 minutes in goal, he faced 54 shots, 39 of which were on goal, and made 20 saves.  The 20 saves is a program record for saves in a game.

Defensively, Klein and Robby Guy (LaPlata, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) each caused a pair of turnovers in the game.  Zach Rush (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central), Jacob Morlando (White Bear Lake, Minn./Stillwater), Blake Chisholm (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan), and Cullen Zaferopolos (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) all caused a turnover in the game.  Rush picked up a game high seven groundballs in the game.     

The Pioneers will return to the field Saturday (April 24) when they host Heidelberg, with the game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
