MARIETTA, Ohio — The University of Mount Union swept Marietta College 9-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis action Saturday (April 17) afternoon. The loss drops Marietta to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the OAC. Mount Union is 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.
The Purple Raiders grabbed a quick point at No. 3 doubles when Max Rosedale and Holden Schmid blanking Ali Al Saffar and
Nathan Hanning (Nelsonville, Ohio/Alexander), 8-0. Avery Clouse and Colton Mace followed closely behind with an 8-1 win at No. 2 against
Kylar Wheeler (/) and
Tyler Wise (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta). In the top spot,
Eric DeLong (Lowell, Ohio/Marietta) and
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) dropped an 8-3 decision to Justin Kelley and Tony Massucci.
Mount Union secured the team victory with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles. Schmid downed Hanning at No. 5 and Rosedale beat Al Saffar at No. 6.
The Purple Raiders finished off the sweep with straight-set wins in the other four singles matches. Massucci topped DeLong at No. 1, 6-0 and 6-1. At No. 2, Kelley defeated Hall, 6-0 and 6-0. Clouse took down Wise at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-2, while Mace beat Wheeler at No. 4, 6-3 and 6-2.
The Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday (April 21) when Capital University visits the Beren Tennis Center for a 3 p.m. match.
