MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team was defeated by John Carroll University, 25-4 on Saturday (April 17) afternoon inside Don Drumm Stadium. With the win the Blue Streaks improve to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference action, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the OAC.
John Carroll scored the first three goals of the first quarter, and held a 3-0 edge at the 12:28 minute mark. Two minutes later, Marietta got on the board when
Zach Radcliffe (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) scored off a feed from
Quinn Rundgren (Angier, N.C./Fuquay Varina). The Blue Streaks answered with three goals, to lead 6-1 with just under six minutes to play in the quarter. The Pioneers halted the run less than a minute later, when Radcliffe notched his second goal of the game. John Carroll closed out the quarter with three goals and led, 9-2 at the end of the first.
The Blue Streaks scored six unanswered second quarter goals, and led 15-2 at the intermission.
John Carroll scored a pair of goals to open the third quarter, but Marietta answered when
Chase Mullen (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) scored an unassisted goal. The Blue Streaks scored the final four goals of the quarter, and led 21-3 after three quarters of play.
John Carroll scored four unanswered goals to open the fourth quarter. The Pioneers scored the final goal of the game when Mullen, tallied his second goal of the day, off an assist from
Connor Ficke (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert).
Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) played all 60 minutes in goal for Marietta, he faced 66 shots, 43 of which were on goal, and made 18 saves.
Defensively
Zach Rush (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) led the way for the Pioneers, he caused a pair of turnovers and picked up three groundballs.
Zach Klein (Evergreen, Co./Evergreen) added to the defense with a caused turnover.
Nathan Grover (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), and
Nate Neal (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) combined to win 18-32 face-offs in the game for Marietta.
The Pioneers will return to the field Wednesday (April 21) when they travel to take on Otterbein, with the game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
