Men’s Lacrosse drops road contest at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team dropped a road contest at Ohio Northern University, 14-5 on Saturday (April 10) afternoon.  With the win the Polar Bears are now 4-4 and 3-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 3-6 overall and 2-4 in OAC action.  

Ohio Northern opened the scoring a minute and half into the match to lead 1-0.  The Polar Bears tacked on four more first quarter goals, and led 5-0 to enter the second quarter.  

Marietta battled back to open the second quarter.  Less than a minute into the quarter the Pioneers made the scored 5-1, when Chase Mullen (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) scored off an assist from Quinn Rundgren (Angier, N.C./Fuquay Varina).  Less than a minute later, Marietta made the score 5-2 when Rundgren scored off a feed from Mullen.  Six minutes later the Pioneers continued to cut into the Ohio Northern edge, when Nate Neal (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored an unassisted goal, to make the score 5-3.  The Polar Bears scored the final two goals of the quarter, and held a 7-3 advantage at the intermission.  

Ohio Northern scored five unanswered third quarter goals, and led 12-3 to enter the fourth quarter.

The Polar Bears scored the opening two goals of the fourth quarter and led, 14-3.  Marietta answered late in the quarter when Zach Radcliffe (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) scored a man up goal.  A minute later the Pioneers made the score 14-5 when Mullen scored his second goal of the game.   Marietta continued to battle, but fell 14-5.  

Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pioneers, he faced 53 shots, 32 of which were on goal, and made 18 saves.  

Mullen led the Pioneer attack, he scored a pair of goals, and picked up four groundballs.  Jacob Morlando (White Bear Lake, Minn./Stillwater), Benjamin Hrovat (Jamestown, R.I./Bshop Hendricken), and Zach Klein (Evergreen, Co./Evergreen) each caused a turnover in the game.

Marietta will be back in action Saturday (April 17) when they host John Carroll University, with the game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
