MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's lacrosse team earned a 10-8 victory over Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday (March 6) afternoon on Marietta Field. The win improves the Pioneers record to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action, and with the loss the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the OAC.
"I am extremely proud of the team today for securing an important, program win. Today we showed how much we have grown in our time as a program and this season so far," said Head Coach
Malory Nadrah. "So many players pitched in, regardless if it was a goal or something not counted on the stat sheet. Each part big or small contributed to a team win that shows we can compete in the OAC."
Marietta opened the scoring 10 seconds into the game, when
Mackenzie Dyott (Easton, Md./Easton) won the opening draw control, and scored an unassisted goal. Baldwin Wallace answered quickly with a pair of goals, and led 2-1 just over two minutes into the game. At the 25:47 minute mark
Lindy Brobeck (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) tied the game at 2-2 when she scored off a feed from
Carlee Kernodle (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park). Brobeck put the Pioneers on top 3-2 less than a minute later on an unassisted goal. Five minutes later,
Shannon Doyle (Gibsonia, Pa/Mars Area) increased the Pioneers advantage to 4-2, when she scored an unassisted goal. The Yellow Jackets scored the final three goals of the half, to lead 5-4 at the intermission.
Marietta scored forty seconds into the second half to tie the game at 5-5 when
Rachel Sivie (Washington, Pa./Trinity) scored off a feed from Doyle. The Pioneers regained the lead at 6-5 when
Hope Adams (Delaware, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) scored an unassisted goal, five minutes into the second half. Less than a minute later Baldwin Wallace tied the game at 6-6. Four minutes later, Doyle put Marietta on top, 7-6, with an unassisted goal. Once again, the Yellow Jackets tied the game at seven goals apiece. The Pioneers put the game away with three consecutive goals, to lead 10-7 with six minutes to play in the game. The Marietta goals were scored by Sivie, Doyle, and Dyott. Baldwin Wallace scored the final goal of the game, but the Pioneers won 10-8.
Maddie Leers (Crystal Lake, Ill./Barrington) played all 60 minutes in net, she faced 20 total shots, 14 of which were on goal, and made six saves.
Marietta was led by Doyle, she scored three goals, and notched an assist in the game. Brobeck, Dyott, and Sivie added to the offense with a pair of goals in the game.
Megan Marshall (Naples, Fla./Estero) had a game high in draw controls with four, and
Casey Roeder (Milford, Ohio/Milford) also picked up three draw controls.
"Megan and Casey played an enormous part on the circle. We have worked really hard on our draw game this year and it was awesome to see their hard work pay off. Clinching those draws in the second half gave us the momentum and possessions we needed to keep the score close and eventually pull ahead," concluded Coach Nadrah.
