MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Ohio Northern University by the score of 9-0 Saturday (March 27) afternoon. The loss drops Marietta to 0-3 on the season, while the Polar Bears improve to 2-0 overall.
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) gave Ohio Northern's No. 1 doubles team of Olivia Kesner and Ola Latala all they could handle in a 8-4 loss. The Polar Bears' team of Joergia Templin and Mackenzie Wills posted an 8-0 win over
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)) at No. 2, while Katie Curry and Regan Landis completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over
Payton Brinks (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) and
Abby Ketchum (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) at No. 3.
Thompson and Latala faced off again in the No. 1 singles match. Latala won in straight sets but need a tiebreaker in the second set to secure the victory, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-4). Kesner blanked Grim at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-0, while Haas fell to Wills by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0 at No. 3.
At No. 4 singles, Flores dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Curry. ONU's Jordan Dodson took the No. 5 match from Ketchum, 6-0 and 6-0, In the final match, Mykaela Schriber beat Brinks, 6-1 and 6-0.
Marietta is back in action against rival Muskingum University on Thursday (April 8). The match will be played at Zanesville High School and is set to start at 4 p.m.
