MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference match to Ohio Northern by the score of 9-0 Saturday (March 27) afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in the OAC. Ohio Northern improves to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.
The Polar Bears opened the match by sweeping the doubles. Zach Beaschler and Andrew Cochran defeated
Eric DeLong (Lowell, Ohio/Marietta) and
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) at No. 1 by the score of 8-3.
Kylar Wheeler (/) and
Tyler Wise (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) fell at No. 2 to Kavya Desai and Matt Garcia, 8-1. In the No. 3 match, Maxim Smith and Isaac Spar were 8-0 winners over Ali Al Saffar and
Nathan Hanning (Nelsonville, Ohio/Alexander).
Ohio Northern posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in each of the top three singles matches. Cochran downed DeLong at No. 1, while Beaschler beat Hall at No. 2 and Wise lost to Desai at No. 3.
Wheeler battled Smith at No. 4 before falling, 6-1 and 6-1. Spar blanked Hanning at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-0, while Joji Imatomi defeated Al Saffar at No. 6 by the same score.
Marietta is off until Wednesday (April 14) when Otterbein University visits for a 1 p.m. match.
