COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was defeated 4-0 on the road at Capital University, on Thursday (March 25) evening. The win improves the Crusaders record to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 0-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in OAC play.
"Our ladies came out strong and had a few chances to take an early lead. We've got to take advantage of those moments moving forward," said Head Coach
Sean Kaighin. "Every point matters to us from here on out. We are still set on qualifying for the OAC tournament, so back to work we go."
Marietta had a pair of chances to open the scoring in the game, in the seventh minute of the match.
Lydia Vach (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) and
Theresa LaGreca (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) each had shots on goal, but Capital made the saves. The Crusaders opened the scoring in the 18th minute of the match on an unassisted goal.
Madi Wagner (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) and
Chloe Williams (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley) had shots later in the half, but the Pioneers entered the intermission behind 1-0.
Capital played a solid second half, and scored three unanswered goals. The Crusaders won the game 4-0.
In goal for Marietta was
Katie Delaney (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont), she faced 21 shots, 13 of which were on goal, and made nine saves.
The Pioneers will return to the field Sunday (March 28) when they travel to take on Wilmington College, with the game scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
