MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Otterbein University, 11-5 on Saturday (March 20) in Don Drumm Stadium. With the win the Cardinals improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 1-4 overall, and 0-3 in the OAC.
The first quarter opened with five minutes of scoreless action, before Otterbein broke the scoring drought, with a goal at the 9:46 minute mark. The Cardinals scored three more goals, and led 4-0 at the end of the first quarter.
After four minutes ran off the clock to open the second quarter, Otterbein tacked on three straight goals to lead 7-0, with seven minutes to play in the quarter. After five minutes of scoreless play, Marietta got on the board when
Zach Radcliffe (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) scored off of a feed from
Chase Mullen (Cabot, Pa./Knoch). The Pioneers trailed 7-1 at the intermission.
Marietta battled back with a pair of goals to open the third quarter. The first goal was scored by Radcliffe off an assist from
Jackson McGill (New Market, Md./Oakdale), and the second goal came from
Connor Ficke (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) off a feed from Radcliffe. The goals made the score 7-3 with just under 10 minutes to play in the third quarter. After a Cardinals goal, the Pioneers answered when
Kyle Fleshman (Davidsonville, Md./South River) scored off a feed from McGill. Otterbein scored the final goal of the quarter, and led 9-4.
The Cardinals scored a quick goal in the fourth quarter to lead 10-4. Three minutes later,
Nate Neal (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored his first career goal, off an assist from Radcliffe, and made the score 10-5. After 10 minutes of scoreless play, Otterbein scored the final goal of the game, with less than a minute to play, and won 11-5.
Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) played all 60 minutes in goal, he faced 41 shots, 22 of which were on goal, and made 11 saves.
Marietta was led by Radcliffe, he had a pair of goals, a pair of assists, and picked up three groundballs in the game. Ficke, Fleshman, and Neal all added a goal in the game. Defensively the Pioneers were led by
Zach Rush (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central), he forced a game high three caused turnovers, and picked up a groundball.
Robby Guy (LaPlata, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) added a pair of caused turnovers in the game.
Marietta will return to the field Saturday (March 27) when they travel to take on Wilmington College, with the game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
