Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer defeated by Otterbein in home opener

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was defeated by Otterbein University, Thursday (March 18) evening on Marietta Field.  With the win the Cardinals improve to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.  

"These girls have continued to prove their worth and although we lost, we've won in regards of continuing to learn and develop against some quality competition," said Head Coach Sean Kaighin.  "Our expectations are high for the rest of the season!"

Otterbein opened the scoring in the third minute of the game when they scored on a shot from the six-yard box off of a cross.   After 20 minutes of scoreless action, the Cardinals scored their second goal of the game and led, 2-0 at the intermission.  Marietta had a pair of shots in the first half, both came from Embrey Roberts (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta).  

The second half was a scoreless draw, and Otterbein won the game 2-0.  The Cardinals out shot the Pioneers 7-5 in the second half.  The Marietta shots came from Gracie Tate (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer), Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster), Roberts, Madi Wagner (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) and Chloe Williams (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley).  Williams had the best chance to score when she got behind the defense and ripped a shot from the top of the 18 but the Otterbein goalie made the save.  

Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Pioneers, she faced 22 shots, seven of which of goal, and made four saves in the game.

Marietta will return to the field Sunday (March 21) when they host Heidelberg University, with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
