Men’s Lacrosse beaten at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HTS., Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team was defeated by John Carroll University, 26-2 on Wednesday (March 17) evening.  With the win the Blue Streaks improve to 3-1 on the season, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 1-3 overall.  

After the first three minutes of play, John Carroll scored three straight goals, to lead 3-0 at the 5:27 minute mark of the first quarter.  A minute later, Marietta made the score 3-1 when Kyle Fleshman (Davidsonville, Md./South River) scored an unassisted goal.  The Blue Streaks scored the final goal of the quarter, to lead 4-1. 

John Carroll carried its momentum over to the second quarter, and scored eight unanswered goals, to lead 12-1 at the intermission.  

The Blue Streaks opened the third quarter with six straight goals, to lead 18-1.  The Pioneers halted the run when Chase Mullen (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) scored a man up goal off of a feed from Zach Klein (Evergreen, Co./Evergreen).  John Carroll scored the final goal of the quarter, to lead 19-2.  

The Blue Streaks scored seven unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to win 26-2.  

Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) played all 60 minutes in goal for Marietta, he faced 75 shots, 42 of which were on goal, and made 16 saves.  The 16 saves set a program record for saves in a game.  

The Marietta goals were scored by Fleshman and Mullen.  Mullen tied for the team in groundballs with five.  Defensively Klein, Robby Guy (LaPlata, Md./St. Mary's Ryken), and Zach Rush (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) all caused a turnover in the game.  Rush also tied for the team lead in groundballs with five.   

The Pioneers will return to the field Saturday (March 20) when they host Otterbein University, with the game scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
