ADA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team opened it 2020-21 campaign with a 2-0 loss on the road at Ohio Northern on Sunday (March 14) afternoon. With the win the Polar Bears are now 1-0 and the loss makes the Pioneers 0-1 on the season.

Sean Kaighin said, "It's an unfortunate result, but we know the mistakes that were made, and we will learn from them. These girls have demonstrated significant growth today, though."
Ohio Northern opened the scoring early in the game to take a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of the match. After 30 minutes of scoreless action, the Polar Bears tacked on a second goal, to lead 2-0 in the 38th minute of the match. Marietta had a pair of shots in the first half,
Olivia Alberto (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) gave the Pioneers their best chance to score, but Ohio Northern made the save.
The second half was a scoreless battle.
Chloe Williams (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley) gave Marietta a chance to get on the board with a shot a goal. The Pioneer back line of
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster),
Embrey Roberts (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta),
Kate Dreas (Independence, Ky./Holy Cross), and
Emma Diorio (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) pitched a second half shutout.
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) was in net, and made four second half saves.
Conkle played all 90 minutes in net for Marietta, she faced 12 shots, eight of which were on goal, and made six saves.
The Pioneers will return to the field Thursday (March 18) when they player their home opener against Otterbein University, with the game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
