11/20/2021 4:19:00 PM

MARIETTA, Ohio – Wilmington College improves its record to 2-2 overall with a 70-58 win over Hendrix on the second day of the Great Lakes Invitational Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 20) afternoon inside Ban Johnson Arena.

Wilmington Head Coach K.C. Hunt said, "Our defense was pretty special at times.  Rebounding the basketball at a high clip was a key to us sustaining and pulling away at the end."

Wilmington opened the game on a 7-0 run that spanned the first two and half minutes of action, and forced a Hendrix timeout.  The run was sparked by five points from Bilal Sow, and a layup from Obed Achirem.  Achirem was named to the Great Lakes Invitational All-Tournament team.

Out of the break, the teams traded buckets with the Quakers outscoring the Warriors 8-6 over a four-minute span.  Wilmington held a 17-6 edge with just under 12 minutes until half time.  The Hendrix points were scored by Seth Stanley, Tyler Deithloff, and Davris Rasberry Jr.  Stanley was the Warriors representative on the Great Lakes Invitational All-Tournament team.

The Warriors battled back to take the lead with 12-0 run to make the score 18-17, in favor of Hendrix.  The run was highlighted by a three from Stanley, and forced a Quakers timeout with 7:43 to play in the opening half.

After the timeout, the teams battled for the final seven plus minutes.  Wilmington outscored the Warriors, 14-13 during that span and the teams entered the intermission deadlocked at 31 points apiece.

Hendrix opened the second half on an 8-2 run that saw them take a 39-33 edge three minutes into the half.  The run was sparked by five points from Jonathan Ryan.

The Quakers answered with a 7-2 run to regain a 41-40 edge with just 14 minutes to play in the game.  The run was capped by a three from Collmann Aaron, which forced a Warriors timeout.

Out of the break, the teams swapped baskets with Wilmington maintaining a 49-46 edge, with just under nine minutes to play in the game.  After the timeout, a pair of three pointers from the Quakers put them on top 55-46, to force a Hendrix timeout.

Wilmington had an answer for all the Warriors attempted runs, and the Quakers closed the game out at the foul line to win, 70-58.

Hendrix Head Coach Thad McCracken said, "All the credit goes to Wilmington.  They played harder, they got us on our heels and kept us on our heels.  We came here to figure out what we need to work on, and we figured that out this weekend."
