WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Marietta College women's basketball team dropped a road contest against Wilmington College, 85-70, on Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon on Hermann Court. With the loss the Pioneers fall to 11-12 overall and 7-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and with the win the Quakers improve to 11-12 overall and 7-9 in OAC action.

Kole Vivian said, "We didn't do a good of keeping them in front today. For a team that we had a size advantage on, they really controlled the paint."
Marietta opened the game with five consecutive points with a three pointer from
Bailee Brooks (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls), and a layup from
Alexis Enochs (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye). The Pioneers continued to play well and led 9-2 behind a foul shot from Enochs and a three from
Marlo Taylor (Kimbolton, Ohio/Cambridge). Wilmington answered with a 7-0 run, and tied the game at 9-9 half way through the opening quarter. The game remained tight, but the Quakers led, 18-14 at the end of the first quarter.
After Wilmington held a 23-16 edge early in the second quarter, a 6-0 run by Marietta trimmed the lead to 23-22 midway through the quarter. The run was highlighted by a pair of layups from
Erin Hahn (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville). The teams battle till the end of the half, but the Quakers led, 42-36.
After
Devin Hefner (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) scored the first bucket of the third quarter, Wilmington answered with a 7-0 run to open a 49-38 edge, which forced a Pioneers timeout. The Quakers were able to maintain a double-digit edge for the remainder of the third quarter. Marietta scored the final four points of the quarter when Enochs and Brooks each converted a layup, but the Pioneers trailed 64-51 to enter the final frame.
The teams traded baskets to open the final frame, and Wilmington led 77-66 with just under three minutes to play in the game. Marietta was able to trim the lead to single digits behind a pair of foul shots from Enochs, with two minutes to play in the game. The Pioneers could not get any closer and fell, 85-70.
Marietta was led by Taylor as she scored 19 points, and pulled down a pair of rebounds. Enochs added 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and had a block in the game. Hefner pitched in with 10 points, and grabbed three rebounds.
The Pioneers will return to the court Wednesday (Feb. 19) when they host Muskingum University, with tip off scheduled for 7 p.m.
