ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Marietta College women's basketball team fell on the road to the University of Mount Union, 82-75 on Wednesday (Feb. 12) evening. With the loss the Pioneers fall to 11-11 overall and 7-8 in the OAC and with the win the Purple Raiders improve to 13-9 overall and 7-8 in OAC action.

Kole Vivian said, "We couldn't keep Mount off the foul line. We defended the three point line, but we needed to be more focused and disciplined."
Marietta opened the with back-to-back baskets with layups from
Marlo Taylor (Kimbolton, Ohio/Cambridge) and
Alexis Enochs (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye). The Pioneers led 4-0 less than a minute into the game. Mount Union answered with five consecutive points to take a 5-4 edge four minutes into the opening quarter. Through the middle of the quarter the lead changed hands six times, and the Purple Raiders led, 12-11. Marietta closed the quarter on a 6-0 run and led 17-12 to start the second quarter. The run was sparked by a pair of foul shots from
Camille Cummins (MIddlefield, Ohio/Cardinal), and capped by a three from
Jill Congrove (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm).
Mount Union battled back into the game to open the second quarter, and tied the game at 21 points apiece, with just under six minutes to play in the half. The Purple Raiders continued to play well, and held a 28-24 advantage at the 3:37 mark of the second quarter. The Pioneers answered with an 8-0 run and regained a 32-28 edge. The run was highlighted by a pair of three pointers from
Bailee Brooks (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls). Mount Union ended the quarter strong and entered the intermission ahead, 38-35.
The teams battled to open the third quarter and the Purple Raiders maintained a 50-43 edge four minutes into the quarter. Marietta answered with a 10-0 run that saw them regain a 53-50 advantage, with just under four minutes to play in the third quarter. The run was a well-rounded attack with Taylor, Enochs, Hefner, and Congrove all scoring during the run. The Pioneers closed out the quarter and led, 62-59 to enter the final frame.
Mount Union opened the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run that saw the Purple Raiders grab a 68-62 edge three minutes into the final frame. Marietta fought for the remainder of the game but well unable make a comeback and fell, 82-75.
The Pioneers were led by Hefner as she tied career high with 23 points, four rebounds, and three assists in the game. Enochs added 11 points, and pulled down five rebounds in the game. The five rebounds for Enochs gave her 500 career rebounds. Brooks pitched in with 10 points, and grabbed four rebounds.
Marietta will return to the court Saturday (Feb. 15) when they travel to take on Wilmington College, with tip off scheduled for 3 p.m.
