MARIETTA, Ohio — We are in the middle of the week and with that we are announcing our Defensive Player of the Decade for the 1990s. This honor goes to
George Threatt, class of 1998. George was recruited by Pete Curtis out of Katy Texas and played for Curtis during the 1994 season. Recruited as a striker, Threatt was the team's third leading scorer in his freshman year with 15 points on five goals and five assists.
For the 1995 season Coach of the Decade Chris Przemieniecki switched George into the back line and it is there where he, and the team, really began to flourish. His work in the 1995 season earned him All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) honors and set him up for additional honors in his last two years in the Navy Blue and White.
In 1996 George helped lead the Pioneers to their first winning record in 12 years when they finished 10-7-3. That team out-shot their opponents 366 to 193 and outscored them 51-31. The backbone of that defensive effort, Threatt was honored once again with All-OAC honors and he was named to the All-Ohio team as well.
1997 saw history made for the Pioneers when they finished third in the conference and qualified for the OAC playoffs for the first time in school history with a 11-8-2 record. Threatt capped his senior season with an epic performance in the OAC playoffs when he hit the woodwork three times in the 1-0 loss to John Carroll. He finished his career with a third All-OAC and second All-Ohio honor and his first All-Region accolades. He is one of only six players in the program's history to earn All-Region recognition.
George wasn't done with MC soccer when he graduated. He has twice returned to serve as an assistant coach including his second stint that began in 2017 and continues today.
