MARIETTA, Ohio — Wrapping up the Eighties with our Offensive Player of the 1980's Decade in Jamie Malone '86. Malone is the greatest offensive player in the history of Marietta College Soccer, one could argue the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Recruited by Coach John Blair out of Medina, Ohio, the extremely technical Malone has left his mark all over Marietta soccer.

Jamie came into a new era of Pioneer soccer, more games, more emphasis on the offensive end and he was able to take full advantage of it. In his freshman year he formed a strike partnership with upperclassman Doug Lessing as Malone picked up five goals and a record, which still stands today, 14 assists.

This was just the tip of the iceberg for Malone. He followed that up in 1983, a second year with Lessing (who was prolific in his own right) with a record setting 18 goals and nine assists for 45 points. The 18 goals and 45 points are records that he still owns today. In that fall the Pioneers held the top spot on the OAC scoring chart with Malone and the third spot with Lessing.

1984 saw Malone's first year without Lessing and teams could now focus on stopping him. Try as they might it didn't stop him. He followed up 1983's record year with 16 more goals and four assists. He helped lead the Pioneers to their first ever OAC title that fall.

Malone wrapped up his career in 1985 with an additional 16 goals and five assists. His career records show him netting 55 goals and 32 assists for 142 points. All three are Marietta College records that are still intact today. In fact he graduated in 1986 with the most goals, assists and points in OAC history.

Malone held onto the most points record for 15 years when it was finally broken as players had more opportunities with the increased amount of games. If you did a point per game average he still is tops in OAC history with 2.40 points per game. His nearest competitor is at 1.95 ppg. Incredible records.

Jamie was honored as a three-time first team All-OAC player, All-Ohio in 1984 and 85 and All-Region once in 1984. He graduated 34 years ago and yet still owns, either outright or a share of, every Marietta College soccer offensive record. Lastly he was inducted in the Marietta College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003.
