MARIETTA, Ohio –
Marlo Taylor (Kimbolton, Ohio/Cambridge) led the Marietta College women's basketball team to an 84-66 win over Capital University on Wednesday (Jan. 15) evening inside Ban Johnson Arena. Taylor broke the women's basketball program record for three's in a game with nine, and scored a career high 33 points.
Taylor broke the record held by Amanda Carraher, which was eight set in the 2007-08 season. The 33 points by Taylor is the most in a game since
Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) scored 33 point in a win over Mount Union during the 2010-11 season.

Kole Vivian. "Everyone will see what she did shooting the ball, but her defense was excellent to. She had a complete game tonight."
Taylor opened the game with a splash from three point range on the opening possession for Marietta. Capital took a 5-3 lead with a 5-0 run.
Bailee Brooks (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) put the Pioneers back on top as she capped a 5-0 run with an old fashioned three point play to put Marietta on top, 8-5 midway through the opening quarter. The Pioneers scored the final four points of the quarter, and held an 18-11 lead to enter the second quarter. The final four points were scored by
Devin Hefner (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South).
Marietta extended its lead early in the second quarter when
Erin Hahn (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and Taylor each knocked down a three pointer, and the Pioneers led 24-11 at the 8:24 mark of the second quarter. Later in the quarter, Marietta went on an 8-0 run to extend a 35-15 edge. The run was sparked by a bucket from
Luce Duritza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) and highlighted by a three from Taylor. The Pioneers closed out the second quarter, and led 44-21 at the half. Marietta outscored Capital 26-10 in the second quarter.
The Pioneers carried their momentum over to the third quarter as they maintained a 60-34 edge midway through the third quarter. Marietta did not allow the Crusaders to put together a run, and the Pioneers led, 66-46 to enter the final frame.
Early in the final frame, Marietta went on a 10-0 run that saw the lead swell to 82-53 at the 5:36 mark of the fourth quarter. The run was highlighted by a pair of three pointers from Taylor, and Hefner and
Camille Cummins (MIddlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) each added a layup. The Pioneers closed out the game and won the game, 84-66.
The win improves the Pioneers record to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and Capital falls to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in OAC action.
Marietta was led by Taylor, in addition to her 33 points, she had eight rebounds, four assists, and a block. Hefner poured in a career high 23 point on 10-12 shooting from the field.
Luce Duritza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) and Hahn added solid minutes off the bench as they tied for a game high two blocks, and each had five points.
Marietta will return to the hardwood Saturday (Jan. 18) when they travel to take on Ohio Northern with tip off scheduled 3 p.m.
