MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was defeated by Mount St. Joseph University 4-1 on Saturday (Sept. 28) evening on Marietta Field. With the loss the Pioneers fall to 5-3-1 overall and the Lions improve to 4-4-1 on the season.

Sean Kaighin said, "A disappointing result tonight. We have to be better and maintain intensity throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes of every competition. Tonight, we didn't do that."
Marietta jumped out to an early lead when
Kelsey Carver (Bellville, Ohio/Clear Fork) scored off a feed from
Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern). Carver scored her second goal of the season from the top right side of the 18-yard box and ripped the ball of the goalie's head, to put the Pioneers on top 1-0.
After a 30-minute lightning delay Mount St. Joseph ended the first half with three goals. The Lions first goal came in the 33rd minute and tied the match at 1-1. A minute later Mount St. Joseph took the lead on a penalty kick. The first half scoring concluded in the 41st minute when the Lions tacked on a third goal to take a 3-1 lead into intermission.
Half time was elongated due to a second lightning. After the half Mount St. Joseph scored the lone second half goal, to take a 4-1 advantage. Marietta created chances late in the game but, the Lions won the game 4-1.
In goal for the Pioneers was
Katie Delaney (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont), she faced 21 total shots, 11 of which were on goal, and made seven saves in the game.
Marietta will return to the field Wednesday (Oct. 2) when they host Bethany, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
