MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team earned a 4-0 win over Bethany College Wednesday (Oct. 2) evening on Marietta Field. The win pushes the Pioneers record to 6-3-1 overall and the loss drops the Bison to 0-8-1 on the season.
Head Coach
Sean Kaighin said, "The ladies did well today to be patient and build with purpose. Our possession, effort, and skill in combination play was fantastic. Another competition with 100% of healthy players contributing on the field, as well. We're ready for conference play now, and excited for what lies ahead!"
Marietta controlled the opening half as they had the ball in Bethany's half for a majority of the opening frame. The Pioneers opened the scoring in the 30th minute when
Emma Balizet (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Washington) scored her first career goal off an assist from Mckenzie Dorr.
Marietta doubled its advantage in the 40th minute when
Sienna Ahlers (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) scored her third goal of the season. The Ahlers' goal was scored off a cross from
Kate Dreas (Independence, Ky./Holy Cross), to put the Pioneers up 2-0.
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) played the first half in goal for Marietta, she faced three shots, one of which was on goal, and made a save.
The second half was dominated by the Pioneers as they tacked on a pair of goals. The first Marietta goal was scored by
Theresa LaGreca (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) in the 75th minute. LeGreca scored her first goal of the season from outside the 18-yard box as she ripped the ball in the top part of the net off a feed from
France Moise (Naples, Fla./Naples).
The final goal of the game was scored when
Gracie Tate (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) dribbled past the goalie and placed the ball in the back of the net off a through ball from Balizet, to put the Pioneers on top 4-0 in the 82nd minute of the match.
Karlee Bruns (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) was in goal for Marietta in the second half, she faced three total shots in the half, and preserved the sixth Pioneers shutout of the season.
Marietta will return to the field Saturday (Oct. 5) when they travel to take on Ohio Northern, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
