ADA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was defeated 5-0 by Ohio Northern on Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon to open Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play. With the win the Polar Bears improve their record to 7-2-2 and 1-0 in OAC play, and with the loss the Pioneers fall to 6-4-1 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

Ohio Northern opened the scoring in 15th minute when Jenna Fuller scored off an assist from Megan Breier. The Polar Bears scored a minute later, when Haley Moses scored an unassisted goal to make the score 2-0 in favor of Ohio Northern. The Polar Bears tacked on a third goal, in the first half, in the 31st minute of match behind Moses's second goal of the game.
Ohio Northern continued its strong play in the second half as they took a 4-0 advantage in the 54th minute of the match with a goal from Fuller. The final goal of the game came in the 76th to put the Polar Bears on top 5-0. Marietta's best chances to score came off shots by
McKenzie Dorr (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley) and
Chloe Williams (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley).
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) played the majority of the game in goal for the Pioneers, she faced 20 shots, 10 of which were on goal, and made six saves.
Marietta will return to the field Wednesday (Oct. 9) when they host Otterbein University with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
