Women’s Soccer trounces Tomcats

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team turned in an 8-0 victory over Thiel College on Wednesday (Sept. 25) afternoon on Marietta Field.  The win improves the Pioneers record to 5-2-1 overall and the loss dropped the Tomcats to 3-5 overall.

Head Coach Sean Kaighin said, "We're extremely proud of the way our young ladies played today, and we're starting to see everything we've been working towards coming to fruition.  Another game with 100% of active players getting action; so, that's a huge compliment to the depth we have available!"

Marietta dominated the first half of the game, as they scored goals early and often in the half.  Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern) opened the scoring in the ninth minute.  Tomlin scored off a rebound header for her third goal of the season.  The Pioneers doubled their lead in the 19th minute when Sienna Ahlers (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Emma Luciano (Milford, Ohio/Milford).

Marietta continued to pull away in the 27th minute of the match when Chloe Williams (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley) scored her team leading fourth goal of the season, as she dribbled past a defender on the end line and placed the ball in the back of the net.  The Pioneers final goal of the half came when Callie Heft (Frostburg, Md./Mountain Ridge) scored from five yards out, off of a rebound from an Ahlers shot.  Marietta entered the intermission ahead, 4-0.

The Pioneers came out of the locker room ready to play, as Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) scored the first goal of her career off of an assist from Tomlin, two minutes into the second half.  Two minutes later, Marietta made the score 6-0 when Tomlin notched her second goal of the game and tied for the team lead with four goals on the season.

In the 78th minute of the match Ahlers found the back of the net for her second goal of the game off of an assist from France Moise (Naples, Fla./Naples).  Marietta scored the final goal of the match in the 83rd minute, when Jasmine Hauser (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Emma Balizet (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Washington), which was her first career assist.

The Pioneers back line of Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central), Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster), Emma Luciano (Milford, Ohio/Milford), and Embrey Roberts (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) held strong for their third consecutive shutout.  The goalkeeping trio of Katie Delaney (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont), Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer), Karlee Bruns (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) split the 90 minutes.  The trio faced four total shots, two of which were on goal, and made a pair of saves.

Marietta will return to the field Saturday (Sept. 28) when they host Mount Saint Joesph College with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
