Women’s Soccer earns road win over Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Marietta College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 road victory over Geneva College Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon.  With the win the Pioneers improve to 4-2-1 overall and the Golden Tornados fall to 3-4 overall.

Head Coach Sean Kaighin said, "We're so proud of our young ladies today.  Another victory earned by the entire lot. We played 85% of our roster and everyone contributed.  The ball movement, the physicality, and our ability to create scoring chances was superb!"

Marietta wasted little time to grab the advantage in the game.  The Pioneers took the lead in the third minute of the match when Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern) scored off an assist from Mckenzie Dorr.  The goal by Tomlin is her second of the season and Dorr's assist is her first of the year.  Marietta out shot Geneva in the first half 7-5.

The Pioneers goalie, Katie Delaney (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont), made four first half saves to blank the Geneva in the half.  Marietta entered the intermission ahead 1-0.

The second half was a defensive battle, as the half was scoreless.  The Pioneers back line of Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central), Embrey Roberts (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta), Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster), and Emma Luciano (Milford, Ohio/Milford) allowed only six shots, three of which were on frame.  The back line made the shut out hold up, to win the game 1-0.

Delaney played all 90 minutes in the goal and earned her second consecutive shutout.  She faced 11 total shots, five of which were on goal, and made five saves.

Marietta will return to the field Wednesday (Sept. 25) when they host Thiel College, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
