Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pioneers shutout Berea

BEREA, Ky. – The Marietta College women's soccer team earned a 3-0 road victory at Berea College Wednesday (Sept. 18) evening.  With the win the Pioneers improved to 3-2-1 and with the loss the Mountaineers fall to 1-6 overall.

"We were off to a good start, but then got too complacent and lost our intensity.  The score line doesn't reflect how dominant our young ladies were on the field," said head coach Sean Kaighin.  "We need to be better in finishing our opportunities as we get closer to conference play.  At the end of the day though, a good result with a clean sheet."

After 23 minutes of scoreless action to open the game, France Moise (Naples, Fla./Naples) secured a 1-0 lead for the Pioneers. Moise scored an unassisted goal for her second goal of the season.  20 minutes later Marietta doubled its advantage when Chloe Williams (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley) scored off an assist from Amelia Thompson (New Castle, United Kingdom/Monkseaton) in the closing seconds of the half.  The goal by Williams is her team leading third goal of the season.

The Pioneers continued to control the game in the early stages of the second half.  In the 61st minute of the match Marietta took a 3-0 edge when Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern) found the back of the net.  The unassisted goal scored by Tomlin is her first of the season.

The Pioneers back line of Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central), Embrey Roberts (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta), Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), and Amelia Thompson (New Castle, United Kingdom/Monkseaton), finished the second half strong and completed their third shutout of the season.

The Marietta defense was anchored by goalie Katie Delaney (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont), she faced seven shots, three of which were on goal, and made two saves.

The Pioneers will return to the field Saturday (Sept. 21) when they travel to take on Geneva, with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
