PHILADELPHIA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's rowing team concluded the 2019 season with a third-place finish in the varsity heavyweight 4+ Level 2 Final Saturday (May 11) morning at the 81st annual Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta.
"The women made improvements from their race yesterday and finished the season with a strong performance. It was great to end our year with a close race for third and come out ahead of Mercyhurst," Marietta head coach
Abby Klicker said. "With just one woman graduating and the rest being freshmen, this season will serve as a solid foundation for the growth and future success of the team."
Merrimack and Franklin & Marshall opened a sizable lead on the rest of the field by the midpoint of the race. Merrimack would go on to win with a time of 7:15.335, five seconds ahead of F&M.
The battle for third was a duel between the Pioneers and Mercyhurst. The crews stayed within a seat or two down the stretch with Marietta edging the Lakers by half a second to claim third place. The Pioneers posted a time of 7:29.314 with Mercyhurst crossing in 7:29.734. Assumption and Franklin Pierce finished a distant fifth and sixth, respectively.
