4/7/2019 3:23:00 PM

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's rowing team hosted a duel race against Ohio Wesleyan University Sunday (April 7) morning on the Muskingum River. The Pioneers swept both races from the Battling Bishops.

"Both boats had strong races. The women have been working to make big improvements each week and today's racing was a result of this effort," Marietta head coach Abby Klicker said. "Thanks to Ohio Wesleyan for joining us on the Muskie. It was great to see in-conference competition early in the season."

The varsity 4+ crews were first on the water. Marietta jumped out to an early lead and had open water on the Bishops by the 1,000-meter mark. The Pioneers crossed the line in 6:47 well ahead of Ohio Wesleyan who finished in 7:13.

In the final race of the morning, the freshman 4+ crews faced off in an 1,800-meter race. Once again Marietta led from start to finish and beat Ohio Wesleyan by more than 30 seconds. The Pioneers posted a winning time of 6:09 with OWU finishing in 6:43.

Marietta is back in action at the Knecht Cup on Saturday and Sunday (April 13-14) in West Windsor Township, New Jersey.
